Untraced, Injured, Undervalued: Bikelawyer Secures £400K+ for Diesel Spill Rider
Bikelawyer has secured a £430k settlement for a motorcyclist who suffered chronic injuries after losing control on a diesel-covered bend.
What started as a routine ride through London ended in life-changing injuries and a legal victory 100x more than originally offered.
The Incident
The rider lost traction while cornering and was thrown over the handlebars. On inspection, he discovered a large diesel spill at the crash site, photographed it, and promptly reported it to the local council.
The Claim
The Claimant turned to Bikelawyer, specialists in diesel spill compensation, to file a claim under the Motor Insurers’ Bureau’s Untraced Drivers’ Agreement.
Initial medical evidence suggested a quick recovery – and MIB offered just £4,000 to settle.
The rider followed Bikelawyer’s advice to reject the offer and continued with the claim.
The True Cost of Injury
As time passed, the rider’s symptoms worsened. Chronic pain, restricted mobility, and psychological trauma set in – impacting his home life and career progression.
Additional assessments revealed:
- Bodily Distress Disorder (chronic psychosomatic pain)
- An Acceleration injury to the back
- PTSD and depression
Thanks to Bikelawyer, the Claimant received interim payments and specialist treatment throughout the case.
The Outcome
After extensive further investigations and negotiations, the case settled for £425,000 – a result demonstrating the importance of choosing lawyers who understand chronic pain, MIB procedures, and rider-specific injuries.
“I was very pleased to act for the Claimant in this matter and to secure compensation that will allow him to access further treatment” said Bikelawyer partner Ian Dexter.
