Six-Figure Settlement Secured for Widow After Fatal Motorcycle Accident
In late 2021, a motorcyclist tragically lost his life when a trailer – improperly secured by the Defendant – detached and struck him. The Defendant was later convicted and imprisoned for causing death by dangerous driving.
Bikelawyer represented the motorcyclist’s widow in a claim under the Fatal Accidents Act 1976 and the Law Reform (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1934.
Although her husband was elderly, he had provided extensive care and support at home. A significant part of the claim therefore focused on the financial impact of losing those services, which she would now need to replace.
To accurately assess the claim, expert reports were commissioned to determine both the deceased’s and the widow’s life expectancy. A care expert then calculated the value of the lost services over that period.
The case was settled for a substantial six-figure sum shortly after court proceedings were issued and served. Andrew Campbell, Partner at Bikelawyer, acted for the Claimant.
