£500k+ for seriously injured rider who switched solicitors to Bikelawyer

This report sets out the outcome of a case involving a motorcyclist who was injured due to the negligence of a van driver in London, and who switched to Bikelawyer after he grew unhappy with his previous solicitors.

Incident Overview

The Claimant, who was in his early 30s, was involved in a significant road traffic accident as he was commuting to work on his motorcycle in East London.

The accident happened when a when a van driver who had been parked in a bus-stop performed a U-turn without checking and drove his van into the side of the Claimant’s motorcycle.

The Claimant was knocked to the ground and knocked unconscious. He was attended by paramedics on the roadside and then taken to hospital by air ambulance, where he was found to have sustained multiple serious injuries (polytrauma), including fractures to the left clavicle (collarbone), scapula, ulna, radius, and femur. Additional injuries included a ruptured tendon in his left thumb, patellar thickening, a concussion, a laceration of the shin, a left-sided haemothorax (punctured lung), and an adjustment disorder with mixed anxiety and depressed mood.

The Claimant underwent surgery on his left collarbone; screws and plates were fitted to his hip, and he had an intramedullary nail implanted through his left knee.  After he was discharged from hospital he underwent further nerve graft surgery due to damage to his brachial plexus.

Effect on Lifestyle

The Claimant was off work for 7 months before returning on a part-time basis with amended duties.  After some time he realised that he could not continue in the role and so found alternative employment.

Case Resolution

The Claimant originally chose to instruct a general (non-specialist) accident firm which had been recommended to him while he was in hospital.  He found it hard to speak to them over the phone and over time, lost faith in their ability to handle his complex claim, and sought out specialist motorcycle accident solicitors instead.

Bikelawyer took over the claim and secured private treatment for the Claimant, before fully investigating the claim and reaching a settlement of of £570,000 without the need for trial.

This compensation amount reflects the severity of the injuries, the impact on the Claimant’s life and his needs in the future.
